The Star bags three prizes at Asian Media Awards
BALI: The Star won three prizes at the 11th Asian Media Awards given out by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) here on Wednesday.
The newspaper's effort at marking its 40th anniversary last year was judged to be worthy of the gold medal in the Best in Newspaper Marketing category.
The jury singled out the newspaper for its innovative approaches in tapping opportunities afforded by the anniversary year to attract readership.
A story on one of Malaysia's most secluded but inspiring schools, SK Ulu Lubai in Sarawak's Limbang district, garnered the top spot in the best newspaper feature article category. The story was written by Meng Yew Choong of Star2.
Metro Central of The Star was honoured for the constructive way in which it engaged stakeholders in achieving a good balanced outcome for heritage and urban conservation, especially in relation to Kuala Lumpur's Jalan Sultan.
For that, Metro's Preserve Our Heritage Campaign received the silver medal for the Best in Community Service category.
The awards were handed out during a gala dinner in conjunction with Publish Asia 2012 here on Wednesday.
The Asian Media Awards, which drew more than 650 entries across all categories, and Publish Asia were events organised by WAN-IFRA, an organisation of the world's press that represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries.
