Move to register specialist doctors with MMC

SUBANG: It will soon be complusory for some 5,000 specialist doctors to register with the Malaysian Medical Council under amendments to the Medical Act 1971, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the amendments would be tabled and passed in the next sitting of Parliament.
He said the registry would allow patients to identify the specialists according to their respective fields and expertise.
He added that the registry, to be made accessible via the internet, would also allow the authorities to monitor foreign doctors practising in Malaysia.
On a separate matter, Liow said the role 661 health clinic advisory councils would be expanded to oversee community based health programmes for some 2,000 village clinics nationwide.
