Najib names Gerakan sec-gen Teng as Penang BN chief

NIBONG TEBAL: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak announced Sunday that Gerakan secretary-general Teng Chang Yeow is the Penang Barisan Nasional chairman.

He said the appointment of Teng, a former state executive councillor and former assemblyman of Komtar, was effective today.

Teng takes over the post from Gerakan president and former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who had earlier said he would not contest in the upcoming general election.

"God willing, we will renew the spirit among the people and work hard to return Barisan's pride and dignity in Penang," he said when opening Penang Barisan Nasional's district voting-level election machinery at Bukit Jawi Golf Resort here Sunday.

Also present were former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Nadawi, Koh, who is also Gerakan president and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Penang MCA chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, who is also Tourism Minister, and leaders of the component parties of Penang BN.
