Shafie: Allegations designed to tarnish my reputation

TEMERLOH: Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has reiterated that he did not pay local starlet Zahida Mohamed Rafik, describing the allegations as being politically motivated and designed to tarnish his reputation.
The Umno vice-president and Rural and Regional Development Minister said he was not pressured by the allegations, adding that it was a made-up story.
“It (the story) is not true and is just a story made up by certain people. I have no problems in carrying out my duties because I know that I am on the right track,” Shafie said after a meet-the-people session in Kampong Bangau Tanjung here yesterday.
He declined to comment further.
His press secretary Zamri Maulan said Shafie refused to elaborate further as advised by his lawyers.

He denied a police report made by Zahida's ex-driver that he paid a substantial amount to the actress-model.
Shafie, the MP for Semporna, is married to Datin Seri Shuryani Shuaib and they have six children.
On another matter, he said all Umno division chiefs in the country have sent the list of names to be finalised as candidates for the general election.
He added that the list was now with Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
He said party members, particularly the leaders, should continue with their service to the people.
“We should not be overly confident despite knowing our good track record has been recognised and appreciated by the people.
“There would be nothing wrong in choosing Barisan Nasional once again to administer the country because it is the only party which has done the best for the people,'' he said.
Shafie said through his visits to the various states, he noticed that the people were coming back to give their support to the Barisan.
Earlier in his speech, Shafie urged the people to not simply believe what was told by the Opposition in their ceramah and gatherings.
