Injured cop: I passed out after I was hit

KUALA LUMPUR: The policeman who crashed his police patrol car near Sogo said he was hit by a hard object before passing out.

Konstabel Mohd Kamil Parimin, attached to the Terengganu police contingent, said he was driving from the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) and heading towards Dataran Merdeka after receiving orders when he was set upon by a mob.

The second generation policeman, whose father is a corporal in Kluang, said he saw objects being flung towards his patrol car and people kicking the vehicle.

“I began to panic when the crowd turned unruly, as I was the only one in the car. I was worried for my safety.

“Some of the objects thrown caused the front window to crack. I could barely see anything.

“The last thing I can remember was when I felt a heavy object hitting my head and felt blood flowing down my face.

“This was when I think I passed out,” he said at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Kons Mohd Kamil said he woke up at the hospital and could not remember anything, including how his patrol car slammed into a wall. He received six stitches on his head.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar visited him yesterday evening.

It is learnt that following the incident, his pistol had gone missing and at press time remains missing.

Al-Hijrah videographer Mohd Azri Mohd Salleh, 28, who is also warded at the hospital with nine stitches to his head injury, said he suffered the injury while trying to help Kons Mohd Kamil out of the patrol car.

“I rushed to stop the protesters from harming the policeman but instead they turned on me by kicking and punching me many times.

“I kept shouting that I was from the media and they only stopped after another group of protesters came to my rescue,” he said.

Kuala Lumpur Hospital head of emergency and trauma department Prof Datuk Seri Abu Hassan Ashaari Abdullah said the hospital treated 113 patients 102 were treated for light injuries while the rest were warded.

Among those admitted are two policemen and two journalists.

He said medical staff had also treated a total of 223 people at the protest sites.
