A pillar of the nation
I READ with great interest “Greatest love of all” (The Star, May 10) and wish to add my contribution. The honour and glory of a country is held by the mother. Many may be wondering why I say this. One should feel happy that this is your mother-land.
Love of the country is the base on which you can build love for the whole community. Love expands, it does not limit itself to any boundary.
It is universal and one cannot measure the depth or the expansion of a mother’s love.
The mother is the pillar of the home, of society, of the nation and of humanity itself. Mothers know the secret of mental peace, of inner silence, of spiritual courage, of contentment – which is the greatest quality – and wealth.
We call our country motherland. We do not call it father-land. Mothers can be compared with creation.
Women are responsible for either the prosperity or the decline of the world. To improve the world and take it to the heights of glory, women alone are responsible, i.e. mothers.
It is said that mothers have a very distinctive quality in them, and that women, in general, should be given the first place in everything.
Malaysia, our country, is described as the mother. Nature, the creation is compared with a mother. If we fall and experience pain, we cry out, “Mother”, we do not cry out “Father”.
In all these situations, in our symbolising the mother, there is a very distinctive and special position for the women.
The mother is primarily responsible for moulding the future of the country. Then only can they, as mothers, mould their children into bright, beautiful, virtuous and strong citizens of the motherland and the world at large.
Good mothers make a good nation. Mothers have to repositories of detachment, discipline and devotion. Their activities must be based on these three principles.
If you want to know how advanced a nation is, study the mothers. Are they free from fear and anxiety, are they full of love towards all, are they trained in fortitude and virtue?
Imbibe the glory of a culture, watch the mothers rocking the cradles, feeding, fostering, teaching and fondling the babies. As the mother, so the progress of the nation; as the mother, so the sweetness of the culture.
A mother, in the true sense, is the creator of the human race. We bow to every mother in this world for your part, and you deserve to be called “Mother-par-Divine”.
