Police to pursue killer dog case

PETALING JAYA: Police are continuing the investigations into the case of the killer dog that attacked a jogger in Subang Jaya even though the dog owner was fined RM1,000.
According to Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli, the police are waiting for the post-mortem and Department of the Veterinary Services (DVS) reports on the incident.
The reports would be submitted to the Attorney-General's Office for a decision whether to charge the owner.
The dog attacked and killed Yip Sun Wah, 74, while he was jogging in SS19 Subang Jaya on Tuesday.
DVS has taken custody of the dog pending investigations.
On Wednesday, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council fined the owver RM1,000 for negligence.
Malaysians have responded with outrage that the animal's owner was only given a RM1000 fine and took to Twitter and Facebook to air their disapproval.
“See. I told you the dog owner will get away with a fine. Malaysians don't need to hire a hitman to kill someone. This is cheaper,” tweeted popular blogger @tvsmithmy.
“Like that easy-lah. You buy Pitbull, you abuse him, and then one day you leave (the) gate open He go “MISTER 305!” and then (it) is OVER,” responded user @tariqk, making a tongue-in-cheek reference to popular rapper Pitbull.
Facebook user Anthony Chew commented on The Star Online's story, saying the fine was the same as drunk driving.
”How can you possibly have an RM1000 fine over a death of a person by a dog? I would suggest, above all, the dog to be put to sleep FIRST by the authorities, then comes the saman or jail term or both. What happens next is between the owner and the victim's family.”
