Record 18,243 bids for 'WWW' plates

PUTRAJAYA: There were a record 18,243 bids for the 'WWW' registration number when bidding closed at noon Monday.

The bids were nearly four times more than the previous record of 4,750 bids for the 'WVW' numbers.

"This is beyond our expectation. Hence, it will take time for the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to process and analyse the bids received," said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

"Our officers are working hard to ensure that not a single bid is missed. We hope the public will understand this," he told reporters after launching the Transport Ministry's Strategic Plan Book 2011-2015 here. The result of the bidding is expected to be announced next Thursday.

Of the bids, 12,805 were received by JPJ in Wangsa Maju, Bandar Seri Permaisuri (2,362), Maju Junction (926) and by post (2,150).

The bidding, which was opened on April 30, was for four registration number categories premium, attractive, popular and running. - Bernama
