Bus plunges into ravine killing two Myanmar nationals (Update)

BALIK PULAU: Two Myanmar nationals were killed while 42 others injured when a bus they were travelling in plunged 10m into a ravine in Jalan Tun Sardon here.

One of the deceased, identified as Abdul Jatba, 47, who was killed on the spot, was said to have been flung out of the bus during the mishap at 8pm Friday.

The other, identity still unknown, was believed to have succumbed to his injuries after he was extricated from the wreckage.

The impact of the crash saw the entire roof of the bus ripped off.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said the group of 46 people and two local drivers were on their way to attend a religious event here.

He said 13 other passengers were reported to be in critical condition while the rest suffered minor injuries.

Firemen had to scale down the narrow slope on ropes to rescue the injured who were taken to the Balik Pulau Hospital. Some were later referred to the Penang Hospital
