Nayati hailed as an awesome boy

PETALING JAYA: Loved ones are so proud of Nayati Shamelin Moodliar. They call him an awesome boy as he is coping well despite having undergone a traumatising ordeal.

The 12-year-old is said to be in good spirits, cracking jokes and enjoying the company of family and friends.

User Shyam Priah tweeted late yesterday evening: “Having a chat with Nayati. He said his bag is gone, so I said he doesn't have to do his homework then ... and he said he has some more homework in his room so he's gonna throw them out of the window too!”

“That's Nayati, he's awesome but then again, I don't have to tell you that.”

Nayati's parents Shamelin and Janice thanked everyone for their support and love throughout the ordeal.

“We cannot begin to say how proud we are of him and the way that he has coped with the events of the past week,” they said in a statement.

The Moodliars said they would continue to enjoy their stay here despite the kidnapping.

They also thanked the police for “they have been most careful not to do anything that might have jeopardised his safety.”

The family also extended their appreciation to the Netherlands embassy staff, especially Ambassa-dor Paul Bekkers, for their “moral support”.

The family will be holding a press conference today.

Bekkers said he was grateful over Nayati's safe return.

“It is wonderful news.

“The police have done a tremendous job. Everyone did what was needed for his safe return,” he added.

Separately, when Shamelin tweeted yesterday morning that “Nayati is home safe!!!!!!!!!!” along with a picture, the Malaysian Twitter community was in uproar.

User @aziebeebs wrote: “The nation wept for you & now the nation celebrates with you. For the past week, he was our son too. Alhamdulillah, he's safe!”

The event also sparked a wave of positive feedback for the police and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who had taken a special interest in the case.

“I know for a fact you were personally monitoring and pushing! Thank you, Sir!” tweeted child rights activist @tiniz in response to Hishammuddin's tweet announcing Nayati's safe return.

Facebook users and friends of the family from Australia, the Philippines, United States, Sweden, Britain and many other countries shared their joy over Nayati's safe return.

Shamelin tweeted that Nayati's safe return was a “triumph of human compassion”.
