Container truck drivers continue protest

By A. RUBAN

PORT KLANG: Container truck drivers have continued their protest against depot operators for the third consecutive day.

This time, a team of FRU were seen on standby to control the crowd if situation turned ugly.

Earlier, at about 11am, a protester hurled a stone against a truck, cracking its windscreen.

On Thursday night, 25 truckers were arrested after they allegedly vandalised a container lorry at about 11.45pm that night.

North Klang OCPD Supt Shukor Sulong confirmed the arrest.

The drivers have now add another reason to their protest, which is the release of all 25 truckers.

Lorry driver S. Rajan, 32, claimed the men arrested had nothing to do with the damage caused to a container lorry last night.

"We were just having dinner here when the police nabbed some of my friends, saying they were responsible for the damage caused on the vehicle," he said with hundred others here at Bandar Sultan Sulaiman, outside Northport on Friday.

The truckers are protesting over the alleged increased of depot gate charges at depots outside Northport and Westport as well as the delays they face there.
