National boxer knocked out flat in brawl

JOHOR BARU: A national boxer who won a SEA Games gold was knocked out flat by a group of men who included a VIP’s son in a brawl here.
Muhamad Farkhan Mohd Haron, 24, who clinched the middleweight gold in the Laos Games in 2009, was severely injured and taken to a private hospital where he is being warded.
According to sources, the Johor-born boxer was out with his friends when he received a call at about 4am from the VIP who told him to meet at a spot in Taman Molek.

Family members who were informed rushed to the location and took the bloodied boxer to hospital.
“He is in stable condition,” said a relative at the hospital.
The boxer was said to be nursing a broken cheekbone and bodily injuries.
State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Md Jais Sarday expressed shock at the incident, saying he was waiting to know the full extent of injuries suffered by the boxer.
He urged the police to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Roslan Zainuddin said police were investigating the assault.
Muhamad Farkhan, who took up boxing at the age of 13, was nominated for the prestigious National Sports Council award last year.
