AES to be implemented by year end, says Rahim

KUALA LUMPUR: The Automated Enforcement System (AES) is expected to implemented nationwide by end of the year, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said Sunday.

He said the implementation of the system, scheduled early this year, had to be postponed, as the ministry had to resolve some technical and legal issues to ensure its effectiveness.

He said implementation of AES was aimed at disciplining drivers and increasing the probability of traffic offenders being caught.

Indirectly, this could make drivers more courteous on the road, he told Bernama.

He said AES involved the use high-technology camera and would detect traffic offenders, including those who beat the red traffic light sign and exceeded the speed limit.

However, he said implementation of AES was an additional measure to reduce accidents, adding that the most effective way was for motorists to practise safe driving and abide by all traffic regulations. - Bernama
