All 16 workers rescued in fire at oil drilling platform

MIRI: Fire on board an oil drilling platform forced 16 workers to be evacuated Monday.

Five of the workers suffered serious burns in the 9.20am fire at Petronas' Tukau B platform some 30km off the coast here.

The fire razed part of the platform that housed the compressor skid. The workers were doing maintenance works on the platform during the fire. They were rushed to the Miri General Hospital.

Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd confirmed the incident in a statement issued at 6pm.

It said the fire broke out during maintenance work and was fully contained in less than an hour.

“All 16 personnel on board have been evacuated and the five who were injured were immediately transferred to the Miri General Hospital via helicopter.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Further update will be provided once available,” the statement said.
