MPK cleans up loan shark ads as Sukma looms
KUANTAN: The town council is on a mission to clean up Kuantan of loan shark banners in time for the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) public relations and community division chief Haslinda Hassan said the town’s image had been affected by the widespread presence of loan shark advertisements.
“They just do what they like without getting a licence from MPK first.
“Banners, bunting, stickers and business cards of loan sharks are everywhere,” she said yesterday.
On Thursday, MPK held a joint operation with the police to remove the banners.
Haslinda said up to 641 pieces of banners were collected during the two-hour operation at Kuantan Garden, Kubang Buaya, Indera Mahkota, Bay Route, Air Putih, Jalan Beserah and Balok.
She added that the unlicensed advertisements seized would be sent to the Kuantan district police headquarters before being destroyed.
“This is the first joint operation this year to clean up the town in conjunction with Sukma.
“MPK will continue to remove such banners,” said Haslinda.
She said those with complaints on such advertisements could contact the police at 09-514 2999 or MPK at 09-512 1555/666.
