Man in blazing drug lab case held

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the discovery of a drug lab in a factory here.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the man was detained in Kulaijaya on Wednesday.

“We are looking for two more suspects, including a foreign national,” he said during a press conference at the Pontian district police headquarters here.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police believed at least six people could be linked to the group operating the drug lab.

The lab, located in a frozen foods factory, was uncovered when the building caught fire in Pekan Nenas, Pontian, on Monday.

The upper floor of the factory was being used as a drug lab and several chemicals, 249,000 Ecstasy pills and more than 20kg of syabu were seized.

“We also discovered three guns, magazines, 23 bullets and 14 bullet shells,” he said, adding that police also confiscated several vehicles, including a foreign-registered Mercedes-Benz and Honda Odyssey.
