Boy finds gun, shoots self on birthday

KOTA BARU: A seven-year-old boy, who was celebrating his birthday, fatally shot himself with a gun in his grandmother’s house in Ketereh.

Muhammad Faris Faizal Noor Hissham found the Walther gun belonging to his uncle, who is with the police force, hidden under the table and accidentally shot himself.

It is believed that the bullet pierced through his head and also hit his uncle’s shoulder during the incident at 9pm on Friday.

Police said Muhammad Faris Faizal, a Year One pupil of SK Pohon Tanjung, Pasir Mas, was celebrating his birthday with family members when he stumbled upon the gun.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said police believe the victim had mistaken the gun for a toy.

The victim’s uncle was taken to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for treatment.

Muhammad Faris Faizal was buried at the Ketereh Muslim cemetery yesterday after a post-mortem.
