PM leaves for Saudi Arabia to pay last respects to Prince Nayef


SEPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has left for Saudi Arabia to pay his last respects to Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, who died Saturday.

The aircraft bearing Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, departed from the KL International Airport (KLIA) here at about 1.50pm Monday.

Also accompanying the Prime Minister was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharum.

On Saturday, a statement from the royal family said that Crown Prince Nayef died at a hospital abroad, while Saudi Arabian television station Al-Arabiya confirmed that the Crown Prince had died in Geneva, Switzerland.

Prince Nayef, 78, was appointed as the Crown Prince in October 2011 following the death of Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, and he was also Saudi Arabian Home Minister since 1975.

Najib is scheduled to return home Wednesday morning. - Bernama
