Dr Ali Hamsa to be sworn in as Chief Secretary on Thursday

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa (pix), 57, will be sworn in as Chief Secretary to the Government on Thursday.
Ali, the Public-Private Partnership Unit (Ukas) director-general, replaces Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan.
The handing over of duties would be held before Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Parliament.
Ali (right) shaking hands with Mohd Sidek when both met at a function in Putrajaya on June 19. There has been no official announcement on the event but Ali confirmed his swearing-in tomorrow.
"It will be in Parliament on Thursday,” he told reporters who had approached him on Tuesday.
Ali replaces Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan whose contract of service ends on Saturday, said the Prime Minister's Office in a statement.
It said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented to the appointment.
Born in Kluang, Johor on Aug 29, 1955, Ali obtained the Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from Universiti Malaya, and a Masters in Economics and a PhD in Environmental Science and Economics from Oklahoma State University, the United States. He started his career in the Administrative and Diplomatic Service as Trade and Industry Ministry assistant secretary on Jan 5, 1981.
He served the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister's Department from Dec 16, 1997 to April 21, 2009.
At the department, he held the positions of director of disbursement division and deputy director-general of the National Transformation and Advancement Programme before being appointed director-general of UKAS in the Prime Minister's Department on April 22, 2009.
"The government expresses its appreciation and gratitude to Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan for his services and good deeds during his term of office as chief secretary to the government, particularly in strengthening the civil service's delivery system by introducing various reforms to ensure the achievement of the national development agenda," said the statement.
