Chief Justice heads awards list
KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Justice Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria heads a list of 1,523 recipients of awards and medals in conjunction with the birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.
He is the sole recipient of the Darjah Seri Setia Mahkota Malaysia (SSM), which carries the title Tun.
Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin have been bestowed the Darjah Panglima Mangku Negara (PMN), which carries the title Tan Sri.
Thirty-nine other people will receive the Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM), which also carries the title Tan Sri.
They include Malaysia's former permanent representative to the United Nations Datuk Hamidon Ali, Petronas president and chief executive officer Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas and Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute CEO Datuk Dr Michael Yeoh Oon Kheng.
Tuanku Abdul Halim's daughter Datuk Seri Diraja Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, Chief of Army Gen Datuk Zulkifli Zainal Abidin and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar will also receive the PSM.
Among the recipients of the award for political organisations are former Dewan Negara president and former MCA secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng, Johor Baru MP Datuk Seri Shahrir Ab Samad, Council of Former Elected Representatives of Malaysia (Mubarak) president Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman and Umno permanent chairman Datuk Paduka Badruddin Amiruldin.
National soccer legend Datuk Abdul Ghani Minhat was also bestowed the PSM.
Sixty-five people will be conferred the Darjah Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN), which carries the title Datuk.
They include Sungai Buloh Hospital head of Medical Department and senior consultant physician Dr Christopher Lee Kwok Choong, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang, Police CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin, MIC secretary-general S. Murugesan and Dewan Negara deputy president Senator Doris Sophia Brodi.
Three people will receive the Darjah Panglima Setia Diraja (PSD), which carries the title Datuk.
They are senior private secretary of the king, Elmi Mohd Yusoff, Kedah Civil Service Association deputy president Datuk Adzmi Din and Police Special Branch director ACP Musa Mohd Safri.
The sole recipient of the Panglima Gagah Berani (PGB) award is ASP Hisham Mahmood of the Royal Malaysia Police.
A total of 411 people have been bestowed the Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) award.
Three people will receive the Johan Setia Diraja (JSD); 228 the Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN), seven the Kesatria Setia Diraja (KSD); 628 the Pingat Pangkuan Negara (PPN) and three the Bentara Setia Diraja (BSD). - Bernama
