PAC: Probe only into govt procedures on NFCorp decisions

By YUEN MEIKENG

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will probe the standard operating procedures (SOP) used by the Government in decisions concerning the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp).

PAC chairman Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said the committee will call officials from the Finance Ministry and Agriculture and Agro-Based Ministry during its meeting on June 26.

"Our focus will be on the Government's SOP. It will not touch on the ongoing court case involving the NFCorp. So issues such as how NFCorp disburses money and claims about the purchase of condominiums will not be discussed," he told reporters at the Parliament building here Wednesday.

Azmi said the PAC will probe certain decisions made by the Government, including how the NFCorp tender was awarded.

The NFCorp came under scrutiny in the Auditor-General's 2010 Report which highlighted its failure to meet the annual beef production target set by the Government.

Set up in 2006, NFCorp was supposed to produce 38,600 heads of cattle in 2010 but fell short as the Entrepreneur Development Programme, involving 130 satellite farms, had not been implemented.

On another matter, he said the PAC will be calling Finance Ministry officials on June 27 for its probe into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) ) RM3.5bil Petrosaudi investment.

"For other cases such as the KLIA2 and the out-of-court settlement of former Malaysia Airlines boss Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli, we will ask the Auditor-General to look into them first before beginning our investigations," he said.
