KUALA LUMPUR: A seven-day remand order has been obtained by the police against the mother of a two-year-old girl who is believed to have died from physical abuse.

The remand order until June 27 on the 26-year-old pub singer was issued Thursday by a Magistrate's court in Selayang under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Police had also obtained the order on the girl's grandmother Wednesday and she has been remanded for seven days.

The toddler died at the emergency ward of the Selayang Hospital after she was found unresponsive at their home in Apartment Seri Selayang, Taman Prima Selayang.

She was declared dead when she was brought in by their parents at 5.26am.

A female physician lodged a police report two-and-a-half hour later after she found bruise marks on her hands, legs and face and scratch marks on the girl's left chest and right thigh.

A post-mortem conducted showed that the girl died due to ruptured intestines caused by blunt force trauma.

The couple have four other children.
