1Malaysia Squad facebook launched to reach youths

PUTRAJAYA: Encouraged by the strong response to its Skuad 1Malaysia Facebook page since it was set up on April 16, the Home Ministry will continue to use the social media to reach out to the youths.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Radzi said the Skuad 1Malaysia Facebook has received nearly 6,600 likes since it was set up.

“Messages (sent out) using these new media are effective in influencing the minds of teenagers and youths, apart from being effective in delivering information and news,” he said when officially launching the Skuad 1Malaysia Facebook page here.

He added the page serves as a medium for Skuad 1Malaysia and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) to raise public awareness on drug prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, detection and monitoring and various other activities and programmes run by the two groups.

“Such online exposure adds to the already extensive work that the Skuad 1Malaysia carries out nationwide,” said Abdul Rahim, adding it had reached out to over 25,000 Malaysians in more than 200 programmes ranging from training to sports.

Skuad 1Malaysia comprises AADK volunteers including the Dadah Treatment and Rehabilitation Committee, Rakan Antidadah, Anti-Drug Council and the 'Persatuan Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya'.

As of last March, it had a total membership of 252,128, and of this total, 85,876 are between the ages of 18 and 25.
