A FOUR-year-old girl who was playing with her cousin fell 21.3m down a well in Guargaon, northern India.

Identified only as Mahi, she had been celebrating her birthday when the mishap occurred on Wednesday.

Her parents and neighbours came rushing out to get to her but their efforts were in vain, Malaysia Nanban reported.

District authorities lowered a camera into the pit to determine the situation she was in and her condition.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Police Parveen Mehta said the camera could only capture a blurred image of her hand.

As of yesterday afternoon, The Times of India reported on its website that rescuers had reached the girl about 82 hours after she fell into the well and that efforts were under way to get her out.

Locals said someone had dug the well about a fortnight ago and left it open. Though residents later covered it with a stone slab, someone had removed it on that fateful night.

> Makkal Osai reported that veteran Bollywood actor Rajesh Khanna was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday.

The 69-year-old has been unwell and was hospitalised in April.

For the past few days, he had stopped all food intake. The actor was taken to the hospital by his estranged wife Dimple Khanna.
