Cops wrap up dead toddler case

GOMBAK: Police believe that with the arrest of the 26-year-old mother of the two-year-old girl who died of suspected abuse, they have solved the case.

“Although the woman continued to deny she had abused her daughter, her husband’s statement revealed that he was aware his wife had been beating the child. He, however, never expected her to die from serious injuries,” said Gombak OCPD Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Abdullah.

Police are waiting for the medical report before submitting their investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

The mother, who works as a pub singer, has been remanded for seven days, a day after the girl was found unconscious at 5am on Tuesday at their home in Seri Selayang apartments.

A doctor at the Selayang Hospital declared the girl dead on arrival and found bruises on the infant’s hands, legs, face and head.

The cause of death has been established as peritonitis (ruptured intestines) due to blunt force trauma.
