Business rivalry may be motive behind parcel bomb blast

SUNGAI PETANI: Business rivalry is believed to have been the motive behind the parcel bomb blast that killed a 49-year-old housewife at Taman Angsana Sari here.

It is learnt that the 32-year-old man, who was arrested to facilitate investigations into the 8.20am incident on Friday, is also involved in the same line of business as the deceased's spouse Ng Cheng Siang.

The 49-year-old husband, who owns a noodle factory at the Angsana Sari Light Industrial Area, was also attacked by a man last November. He had lodged a police report over the incident.

The parcel bomb, which was sent to Ng's house on Friday, exploded seconds after Tan Chin Fang, 49, picked it up.

Tan died at about 9.30am the following day. Her nephew Chua Shang Hang, 11, who was standing a distant away, suffered minor injuries.

Kedah CID chief Asst Comm Zakaria Ahmad said police had yet to confirm the real motive behind the attack.

“We are still looking into all angles and we hope that the suspect could shed some light into it,” he said.

Ng said his family was still in shock over the incident, especially his four children who were still distressed over the loss of their mother.
