KUALA LUMPUR: Fuelled by a burning desire to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records, eight biker friends will be embarking on a gruelling road trip from Meung Chiang Rai, Thailand, to Kuala Lumpur this weekend.
The expedition dubbed the Buraqoil Malaysia 24-hour Endurance Ride will see the group trying to cover the 2,400km route in 24 hours.
The group's spokesman Zuhri Iskandar Kamarzaman, 41, said the current MBR record was a 1,900km route covered in a day.
Ready to roar: The bikers (in black t-shirts) posing with their sponsors, representatives from Buraqoil and Kawasaki, during a press conference on their attempt to get into the MBR. “We want to be inducted into the MBR as the longest motorcycle ride in a group,'' Zuhri Iskandar said when contacted, adding that all the riders were members of the Versys Owners' Club Malaysia (VOCM).
The bikers will be riding Kawasaki Versis 650cc bikes.
Zuhri Iskandar said the riders would leave for Meung Chiang Rai from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday on a normal ride which takes three to four days.
According to Zuhri Iskandar, the trip's team leader and navigator Syed Ahmad Abdul Hadi Syed Hussin is an experienced rider who is familiar with the route.
The riders will flag off at 9am on Wednesday at the Kawasaki Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Hicom Glenmarie Industrial Park and end their journey at Saloma Bistro, Jalan Ampang at 2pm on Sunday.
