Ministry to clarify situation on maids arrival

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry will meet the Indonesian Embassy's labour attach and local agencies to discuss and gauge the actual situation on the arrival of Indonesian maids.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said they were aware of conflicting reports on the maid arrivals and wanted to call for a meeting with the concerned parties soon to clarify the matter.
“My secretary-general will be chairing the meeting as soon as possible. We will listen to all groups and after getting everything, we will release a statement,” he said after delivering his keynote address at a conference on “Modernisation of Labour Legislation and Dispute Resolution Process: An Alternative Perspective” here.
Indonesian maids have only been trickling in despite the lifting of a moratorium last December.
Indonesia and Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding to pave the way for Indonesian maids to return here but only 29 of the 106 maids arrived under the first batch.
More have arrived since with four arriving on Monday via an association.
