KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional supreme council will meet on Friday night to review recent political developments, with the focus on the general election again.

The meeting comes on the heels of the Umno supreme council held last Friday, which was dedicated to the party's preparedness to face the polls.

Umno media secretary Ahmad Kamal Zailani, when contacted, confirmed that the party had been informed of the meeting to be chaired by president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

All 13 Barisan component party heads are expected to attend the meeting at PWTC.

Another source said the meeting would assess each component party's machinery and operation room preparations.

Top of the agenda is whether component parties have identified potential candidates as well as a list of old faces who should be considered.

Seat allocation and the issue of swapping of seats is also expected to be raised.

Umno has gone through the process of evaluating its candidates twice while the other Barisan parties have also done similar evaluations.

It is learnt that the last Umno supreme council meeting had discussed its potential candidates.

Najib, who is Prime Minister and Barisan chairman, would estimate the coalition's ability to defend the seats it currently holds, and the chance of wresting parliamentary seats which were once Barisan strongholds.

The Barisan leadership also wants to gauge the coalition's ability to wrest Kelantan from PAS, which won the state in 1990.
