Grocer shot near school

KUALA LUMPUR: A 33-year-old grocer from Sungai Chua Kajang was shot dead by two men in front of a school in Seri Kembangan in Serdang.

M. Parthiban was sitting in the car near the gate of Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Besi Indah while his wife was taking their eight-year-old son to his classroom when the shooting occurred.

A security guard at the school said he heard two shots and turned to see the gunmen in full-faced helmets speeding off on their motorcycle at about 7.30am yesterday.

Parthiban’s wife rushed him to Serdang Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries at around 9am.

Looking for clues: Police investigating the scene of the shooting at Taman Besi Indah yesterday.

Serdang OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Elias said police were trying to determine the motive for the murder.

“The victim had no criminal record and according to his family, no enemies,” he said at the scene.

Parthiban’s elder brother, Serdang Jaya MIC chief M. Mahendran, said the family suspected that the killing was a case of mistaken identity.

“It is possible that the killers mistook him for someone else as my brother was a kind and friendly person and had no enemies,” he said at the hospital.

He requested that the family be left alone to grieve.
