PM: Govt to make changes to realise young generation’s aspirations

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional government is ever ready to initiate changes from time to time in tune with the aspirations and demands of the young generation in the country, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the government or politicians cannot remain inflexible and indifferent in the manner they implement tasks and must have the audacity to make changes.

As Prime Minister he is also aware that the young generation in the country expected the government to provide opportunities for them to progress and have a better future.

"The young generation wants the government to be able to provide them opportunities in education, skills, entrepreneurship, creativity and so on," he said at the Twitter Meet Up - #AskNajib session at Bukit Jalil Stadium, here on Saturday.

Najib was accompanied by his son Norashman Razak, Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Gan Ping Sieu.

The prime minister noted that Malaysians were among the most active of the world's communities in social media.

“Hence, the government must follow the rhythm by using social media to reach out to the young,” he said.

To understand the young generation better he had even learned to adopt their lingo such as 'lol', 'tgif', 'omg' and 'fyi', he disclosed.

"What is important is that we understand them and know what we should do to fulfill their aspirations and needs.

"I hope they will see that BN is the government for the young people," he said, adding he was fortunate to be able to meet the youngsters who had been interacting with him through twitter.

Meanwhile, the prime Minister also answered a number of questions that were posted on twitter.

To a question on the transformation programme for young people, Najib said the government would continue to provide social mobility for the target group through education and opportunities for them to be empowered and excel in their career. - Bernama
