Kelantan govt received RM5.3bil from federal govt
KULIM: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Sunday that the Kelantan state government had received RM5.3bil from the federal government since 2010 but only contributed RM300mil in revenue for the same period.
Speaking to reporters after opening the Kulim/Bandar Baru Umno delegates conference here Sunday, he said the assistance was under the 10th Malaysian Plan channeled through the State Federal Development Department and government agencies for various projects and aid to the poor.
He said these statistics were from the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister's Department and had been tabled in Parliament in May.
Therefore, he urged the people to think rationally and evaluate fairly the Barisan Nasional government for keeping its word, in contrast with the empty promises of the opposition coalition.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Defence minister, said the opposition was good at manipulating people's feelings with promises, which were never delivered.
"It's true that the various assistance given to the people come from taxes collected from the citizens. The government can go bankrupt if it does not manage its finances well and the people would not enjoy these benefits. We must be grateful," he said.
He cited the Selangor government as an example whereby they promised RM100 to senior citizens 60 years and above which has not been fulfilled to date.
He also noted the Kedah government's introduction of the Kafalah Scheme to pay RM500 to the family of a deceased, to set up the Tunku Mahmud Fund for welfare aid and the building of the RM330mil Insaniah University College, which were all implemented earlier by the BN government. - Bernama
