Man stabbed with penknife dies after seven days

KUCHING: A man who was stabbed in the chest with a penknife when he intervened in a heated argument between some people at Mile 3 nightspot last Sunday succumbed to his injury yesterday.

The deceased, Kent Jenuwen, 24, who lived in Kampung Maang, Mile 25/26, Jalan Kuching-Serian Lama, was the third of five siblings.

According to a friend who refused to be named, Kent used to operate a school van but quit and sold the vehicle as his clients often delayed their payments.

On the fateful day (June 23), Kent asked for RM50 from his father as it was his birthday.

Then he went out to the nearby Beratok bazaar with some friends to celebrate. After that, the group went to a nightspot at Mile 3, Jalan Penrissen.

Around 2.30am, they decided to go home. When they stepped out from the nightspot, they came across some people quarrelling.

While Kent tried to disperse them, someone stabbed him in the chest.

He was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital and remained there for seven days.

He failed to regain consciousness until his death.

The case has been confirmed by Kuching deputy police chief, Supt Pauzi Bujang.

So far, five suspects have been arrested.
