Chua: There’ll be no more debates with Guan Eng

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek says that he will not debate with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng any more.

Dr Chua said the MCA presidential council decided that debating with Lim was a waste of time.

“Lim Guan Eng was just attacking other people except Anwar (Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and does not participate in a healthy debate,” he said at a press conference after the MCA presidential meeting yesterday.

Dr Chua said that Lim used the platform to rubbish other people's arguments, did not answer questions and made defamatory allegations.

Dr Chua also expressed surprise over comments made by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the government's recognition of Tunku Abdul Rahman College's (TARC) certificates.

Dr Chua said the college expanded under Dr Mahathir's tenure as PM.

Dr Chua also said the council had appointed MCA Young Professionals Bureau chief Datuk Chua Tee Yong to continue exposing Talam's deal with the Selangor state government.

Asked to comment on Opposition blogs claiming that MCA and MIC might leave Barisan Nasional, Dr Chua said: “I think that they pray that we leave Barisan and thus jeopardise its strength.

“MCA has been an integral partner of Barisan for more than 50 years and we think the Barisan concept is still the best for Malaysians,” he said.
