Cops: Public apathy making thieves braver

KUALA LUMPUR: Combating crime will be more effective with strong co-operation from the public, said Federal CID Director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin.

He added that the police could only do so much and urged for support from the public as well.

“Public apathy is among the reasons why criminals have become more brazen in committing crimes lately,” he said.

He said another reason members of the public hesitated to help the police was also due to the long court processes involved.

“We understand their concerns, especially when they are required to give evidence,” he said yesterday.

Comm Mohd Bakri said criminals would think twice if they knew the general public was looking out for each other.
