PETALING JAYA: The brother of alleged deviant Khalil Afandi Abd Hamid said he is worried about his safety after Monday's incident of a sword-wielding pair going on a rampage in Putrajaya.

Joe, as he wished to be known, said the media should leave him alone.

“What if my brother has friends who will not be happy about what I tell (the press)? Can you guarantee my safety?” he asked when met outside his home yesterday.

Joe, 45, said some news reports had referred to his place as “the crazy blogger's house”, adding that he had been under “a lot of stress” and had not slept for three days.

He said his brother had gone missing for years and only re-appeared at the family home recently.

Khalil Afandi, who died from gunshot wounds in the afternoon drama, had set up a blog about a month ago in which he made 17 lengthy postings that gave glimpses of his early years as well as political jottings.

Calling himself Jaya Negara, he also proclaimed he was the promised messiah Imam Mahadi.

Initial police investigations showed that Khalil Afandi was a member of a deviant sect.

He and a woman, identified as Muhdalina Ahmad, 28, went on a rampage with samurai swords at the Prime Minister's Department complex on Monday.

Police opened fire, hitting Khalil Afandi in the left arm and groin and Muhdalina in the thigh.

He died after admission to the Putrajaya Hospital, while Muhdalina is still being treated there.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that police have identified the individual who sent Khalil Afandi and Muhdalina in a car to the vicinity of Complex B of the Prime Minister's Department.

Putrajaya police chief Asst Comm Abdul Razak Abdul Majid, however, declined to reveal the identity of the individual.
