Robber punches MP’s mum

BALIK PULAU: Fatimah Ahmad woke up with a shock at 4am a robber had a knife to her throat.

Not only did the violent robber take RM33,000 worth of valuables, he also left Fatimah, the mother of Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff, with a bruised left eye.

Recounting the incident to reporters at her house in Jalan Baru yesterday, the 73-year-old Fatimah said she was jolted from her sleep by the robber.

Dia kata jika awak lawan, awak akan mati (He said that I would lose my life if I put up a fight),” said the mother of seven.

She surrendered her gold necklace, bracelet, rings, a wallet containing RM3,000 as well as her mobile phone.

“He left by the back door at around 4.30am,” said Fatimah.

She only realised he had punched her in the face when she felt the pain minutes after he had left.

Her neighbour helped her contact one of her sons who took her to the police station.

It is believed that the robber gained entry into Fatimah's home by breaking a horizontal window bar and removing two glass panes.

“I am glad I escaped with minor injuries,” said Fatimah before going to Hospital Balik Pulau for a medical check-up at around noon.

When contacted, Yusmadi urged the police to catch the culprit.

“I am thankful my mother is safe,” he added.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said the case was being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
