MCA leaders pay glowing tribute to party man Law


JOHOR BARU: MCA leaders paid a glowing tribute to veteran Law Lai Heng whom they described as a true party man.

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said Law had continued to work behind the scenes to groom the younger leaders despite his retirement from frontline politics.

He said in a statement yesterday that Law had never stopped serving the party until his last days and was even assisting MCA prepare for the general election.

“His spirit in serving the party should be emulated by all party members,” he said, adding that the former Pontian MP’s contributions to the party would always be cherished.

Deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who represented Dr Chua at the wake yesterday, handed over the party flag to Law’s family in recognition of the late leader’s contributions.

“Despite having retired from active politics, he helped out with the party and remained exemplary,’’ Liow told reporters.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong recalled the late Law as someone who had guided him early on.

“Even at his last meeting, he told the Johor Baru division members to help the party in the coming general election and to support the Prime Minister,” he said.

Law, 77, who was Pontian MP from 1986 to 1990, died after being sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital at about 11pm on Saturday. He had collapsed at a meeting and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The funeral will be held at the Tiong Hua Federation Cremato-rium here at noon tomorrow.
