Robbers may have escaped by train

GOMBAK: Robbers who pulled off the daring RM1mil robbery at a goldsmith shop at a hypermarket in Batu Caves are believed to have used a Komuter train to escape.

Police arrived at this conclusion after they found a Proton Waja abandoned at the Kepong Sentral Station after the robbery on Saturday.

“We located the getaway car at the train station about five hours after the robbery,” Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said yesterday.

He said the suspects could have panicked and boarded the train to elude capture.

“We have taken the CCTV recordings from the train station. The getaway car was reported stolen near Bandar Sunway on July 13 when its owner was out of town on business,” he said, adding that the police were checking the car for fingerprints.

During the 11.28am incident, two robbers armed with pistols shocked shoppers when they rushed inside the goldsmith shop and forced the workers to empty trays of jewellery into a canvas bag.
