Husband in Pekan bedroom fire dies, wife still critical (Update)


KUANTAN: One of the victims in the bedroom fire at a house in Kampung Cenderawasih, Pekan early Monday has succumbed to severe burns sustained in the fire.

Pekan police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said on Tuesday that Abdul Karim Mohamad, 39, who was warded at the intensive care unit of Tengku Ampuan Afzan hospital died at 5.09pm.

"The family is in the process of claiming his body while his wife, Saidah Tallib, 35, who is in critical condition after suffering severe burns together with her husband is still being treated at the hospital," he said when contacted here.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pekan student Mohd Amri Abu Bakar, 16, kicked the bedroom door open to save his mother Saidah and his stepfather during the 2.30am blaze.

He also managed to alert his two younger sisters Nurazalina Abu Bakar, 11, and Noraini Abu Bakar, 5, who were sleeping in the living room. - Bernama
