Four ex-detainees under emergency ordinance nabbed for robbery

KAJANG: Four former detainees under the Emergency Ordinance 1969 who had just been released last month, were arrested for alleged involvement in a robbery on a reflexology centre in Bandar Mahkota Cheras here on Saturday.

The four men, aged between 28 and 41, were believed to have robbed the centre at around 12.15am.

Kajang police chief ACP Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said on Tuesday that initial investigation found that they were also involved in two robberies on a massage parlour and a budget hotel in Kajang early this year.

"Their modus operandi is to pose as policemen and travelling in a white van that is similar to a police van.

"During the robbery three days ago, they were posing as policemen inspecting the reflexology centre. Then, they tied up seven victims, comprising the customers and the cashier, before taking valuables from the building," he told a press conference at Kajang police headquarters here.

Ab Rashid said two of the suspects suffered broken legs and neck after jumping from the second floor of the building in a bid to escape the police, while the other two were found hiding in the building.

"Among the valuables retrieved from the suspects were three laptop computers and two LCD television worth RM12,000," he said.

He said the men had been remanded to facilitate further investigation into the case.

In another development, Ab Rashid said another former detainee under the Emergency Ordinance and a man with two criminal records were arrested in connection with a car-theft case.

He said the duo, aged 27 and 29, were picked up at a house in Batu 11, Cheras, as they were believed to have stolen a Proton Saga BLM in Kajang and a Proton Wira Aeroback in Brickfields end of last year.

"They were also believed to have been involved in several burglary cases in Semenyih," he added. - Bernama
