Five families made homeless in night blaze
KEPALA BATAS: Five families were made homeless after a fire ravaged their wooden houses in Kampung Kovil here Wednesday night.
No one was injured as most of the occupants were at work when the fire occurred at 8.45pm, said a spokesman for the Kepala Batas Fire and Rescue Station.
Housewife A. Sinamal, 55, said she was doing household chores and waiting for her husband's return when she heard a loud explosion from a neighbour's house, and quickly dashed out of the house for her safety.
“The fire spread fast and there was nothing I could do,” she told reporters Thursday.
The spokesman said 30 firefighters reached the scene in five trucks three minutes after being summoned, but due to the houses being close to one another, it took them 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
“We are investigating the cause of the fire and estimating the losses,” he said. - Bernama
