Ongkili: Over RM1.5bil research projects approved last 4 years


BANGI: The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) has approved RM1.59bil for 2,029 research, development and commercialisation (R,D&C) projects in the past four years.

"13,213 applications for funds totaling RM7.34bil were received during the duration. 16.65% or 310 of 1,862 R & D innovations funded by Mosti were successfully marketed in the country and abroad.

"The government through Mosti is formulating a Science, Technology and Innovation policy, a Science Act and a Human Capital Science and Technology Roadmap to empower research, development and innovation programmes in the country," Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said.

Ongkili said the documents would serve as a blueprint towards ensuring sustainability of the ecosystem and a more conducive science and technology environment, besides enabling the government to effectively manage critical issues such as human capital development, career advancement in the science field, R & D investment growth and innovation progress. - Bernama
