Kedah bowlers keen to redeem themselves
KEDAH’s 10-pin bowling team are all out to prove themselves at the 15th Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Kuantan.
They had a dismal outing in the 2010 series in Malacca where they won only a bronze medal the men’s inter-team event.
It was a poor performance compared to their haul of two gold, one silver and three bronze medals in 2008 in Terengganu.
Team manager Abdul Ghani Zulkifli Zainuddin who had managed the ten-pin bowling team since 2006 said that the performance of his bowlers in Malacca was a low point for Kedah’s 10-pin bowling.
“The team is in tip-top condition having trained hard for the past six months.
“We have set a minimum two-gold target at this year’s games and a number of medals of other colours.
“Our hope to meet this target will depend solely on the performance of the men, especially in the men’s doubles and trios events,” he said after the Kedah flag handing over ceremony at the Mentri Besar’s residence in Alor Setar recently.
Ahmad Muaz Mohd Fishol, the Singapore Open boys singles runner-up will be the anchor man for the two gold medals.
He will shoulder the burden of guiding his teammates to success in both the doubles and trios events.
He will partner Noor Afizal Azizan in the doubles event and the pair will be joined by Mohd Amirul Che Amat for the trios event.
All the 12 bowlers (six men and six women) trained for the past six months under coaches Nor Amdia Nordin and Azman Abdul Latiff at the Sky Bowling centre in Alor Setar.
The bowling events will be held from July 7 to July 16 and there will be 13 gold medals on offer.
The events are (men and women): singles, doubles, trios, mixed doubles, Masters event, All events and inter-team.
The members of the Kedah 10-pin bowling squad are:
