Najib: Wealth from Felda listing for whole nation

By ONG HAN SEAN

JERANTUT: Wealth generated from the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGVH) will be shared with the whole nation, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the concept had always been the Government's intention with the listing.

"The majority of the shares are given to settlers but shareholders of financial institutions such as Lembaga Tabung Haji, Employees Provident Fund and Permodalan Nasional Berhad stand to benefit too.

"These shareholders are Malaysians as well and the FGVH dividends and increasing share value will definitely give them profits," he said after launching the national-level Kampung Sejahtera Inspirasi Harmoni (KAS1H) programme at Felda Padang Piol here Friday.

He said through the programme, RM5,000 would be allocated to each family to refurbish their traditional houses in villages near to Felda schemes.

Some 12,000 families would benefit from the RM60mil allocation.

Najib added that Felda settlers would not be forgotten as RM230mil had been set aside as interest-free loans for their home repairs.

"Some of them have rough it out for half a century. Only the strong and disciplined can now reap the profit.

"I have ordered Felda to approve all 5,600 loan applications as soon as possible," said Najib.

He also said FGVH shares would be given to state governments but priority would be given to states that had prepared land for Felda.

Commenting on Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak's order for the State Development Corporation (PKNK) to sell off the 500,000 unit of shares purchased from FGVH, Najib said the move was akin to the group of settlers who filed injunction against the listing process.

"They have received the profit, now they want to ruin Felda by lowering the value of its shares.

"What makes my blood boil is to see those who filed the injunction being the first to collect their windfall," said Najib.
