DPM: Govt to issue tenders for Langat 2 plant next month

By JOSEPH SIPALAN

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Government will go ahead and issue tenders for the construction of the Langat 2 water treatment plant by next month, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the Cabinet committee on Selangor's water issues had ordered the Attorney-General to look into legal provisions to push the RM8.65bil project ahead, should they fail to secure permission from the state government to start construction.

"The (water supply) situation is now critical. The committee is of the view that we must go ahead with Langat 2," he told a press conference after chairing the committee's first meeting here Monday.

He also said Selangor cannot go ahead with its planned takeover of water concessionaire Syabas' operations in the state due to substantive and procedural issues.

Muhyiddin said they were advised that the state's plan cannot be considered as the state has not fulfilled some terms outlined in the concession agreement.
