GEORGE TOWN: A Singaporean couple begs to differ over a poll which put Penang behind Singapore in the top 10 cities for street food,
Chen Rong Chang and Chen Li Ting, who travelled here just for the food, said Penang has more to offer.
“I would rank Penang higher than Singapore in terms of taste and variety.
Rong Chang feeding girlfriend Li Ting some cendol at Penang’s famous stall in Lebuh Keng Kwee, off Jalan Penang. “Almost every street offers delicious food.
“I've tried the rojak, char kuay teow and laksa. We'll look for mee goreng and Hokkien mee today,” said Rong Chang, who has been here for five days.
He and his girlfriend were seen sampling the famous Penang cendol and ais kacang at Lebuh Keng Kwee, off Jalan Penang yesterday.
VirtualTourist.com had put Penang in third spot behind Bangkok and Singapore in its poll on world's best street food.
The 37-year-old engineer said he had cendol from the same stall a day before, but went back there again yesterday.
“The cendol here tastes better because of the gula Melaka.
“Penang laksa is also better. You can't find the same taste in Singapore,” he added.

His girlfriend Li Ting said the price of food here was also cheaper.
“The fact that Singaporean tourists come here is proof that Penang food is better.
“The last time we came here, I put on 3kg,” said Li Ting, who works as a finance manager.
A Swiss couple, Sonia, 58, and Angelo Irniger, 59, also praised Penang food.
“I've tried onion pakoda' in India but the Penang one is better.
“This is our third trip to Penang,” Sonia said at Lebuh Queen Pasar Ramadan yesterday.
