Guan Eng denies he or his wife assaulted anyone amid rumoured affair with ex-staff

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng broke his silence over reports that his wife had assaulted his former staff member because of an alleged relationship between the two.

Barely two months after he allegedly threatened to sue reporters if they highlighted the matter, Lim finally denied having a relationship with the woman.

“I have no close or secret relationship with my former staff.

“My wife, Betty Chew, has never assaulted me or anyone in her life,” he said at press conference here on Wednesday.

He dared Malacca MCA chief Datuk Gan Tian Loo, who brought up the matter at the Malacca State Assembly sitting on Monday, to repeat the allegations publicly.

Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, said the party had never indulged in gutter politics, abused or misused parliamentary privilege and proceedings to attack MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

“Gan has abused the Malacca State Assembly privilege and immunity by making false allegations of a private moral scandal against me and my wife inside the House.

“I want Gan to repeat his allegations outside so my wife and I can file a legal suit against him for defamation,” he said.
