Special team to probe disclosure of secret LRT tender documents

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have formed a special team to investigate the case on the disclosure of documents which were classified as government secrets for the tender on the Ampang light rail transit (LRT) extension construction project, which was published on a news portal.

Bukit Aman CID Director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said the investigation was initiated following police reports lodged by several individuals from the relevant ministry in Putrajaya on Tuesday.

"The complainants claimed that several classified documents on the tender had been exposed to parties which did not have the right through a news portal. Such documents were also frequently manipulated by irresponsible parties for self-interest," he told reporters, here on Wednesday.

Mohd Bakri said police took a serious view on the matter as the documents which had been classified as government secret would indirectly affect national interest.

"We give an assurance that the investigation will be transparent and comprehensive under Section 8 (1) (i) of the Official Secrets Act 1972," he said adding that the probe would focus on how the information could have been leaked out and whether it was an 'inside job'.

He said investigations would also be carried out on the portal which had exposed the tender on the project extension contract. - Bernama
