PETALING JAYA: Rock queen Ella, whose classic hits include Layar Impian and Dua Insan Bercinta, is getting hitched to Firefly pilot Azhar Ghazali.

Ella, whose real name is Norzila Aminudin, 46, will undergo the akad nikah ceremony tomorrow at her family home in Teluk Gadong, Klang.

She has known Azhar, who is in his 30s, for the last nine years but their relationship only became serious three years ago.

The ceremony is scheduled after isyak prayers and will be attended by relatives and the media only.

On cloud nine: Ella’s mother was overjoyed when she heard the news of her marriage.

A reception has been planned for Dec 1 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Ella could not be contacted at press time.

The singer's sister, beautician Saidatulnisa, told mStar Online that their mother Yang Asmah Yong, 85, was overjoyed when she heard the news of her daughter's marriage.

She said Asmah did not protest her sixth child's decision to bring forward the wedding date.

Azhar's family had come by on June 15 to meet Ella's family (merisik), and had decided then to hold the engagement and wedding ceremonies simultaneously.

“Ella and Azhar will wear Saiful Baharim's designs at the akad nikah, but plans for the wedding concept have not been finalised yet,'' said Saidatulnisa.

She apologised to relatives and friends who were not invited as the wedding would be held on a small scale.

Ella began her recording career in the mid-1980s. Her most recent album was 2007's Rama Rama.
